TWENTY-TWO:
Later that night when Judge fell into bed on board Prowler II, he ran over all that he had been through that day, meeting the Amahka, spending a few mins with Dillion before he was placed in the regen, talking with the Kail, who he was pleased to discover still had his dry sense of humor.
Jarrod assured him the feeling of being overwhelmed was because of the recent changes in his life and the feeling would dissipate when he found his purpose in life.
What kept him awake now was the thought of having to say goodbye to Echo and Relic tomorrow. He lay with his hands under his head as he sorted through his feelings and discovered it was not just leaving Echo and Relic behind that had him concerned. He did not want to leave the world or the people he had come to know. âJax, may I speak with you?â
âYes, Captain Shaw.â
âPlease, call me Judge.â
âI thank you, Judge. What can I help you with?â
âWhen we leave this world. Do you leave as well?â
âNo, I am able to stay for as long as the Star Daughter wishes me to.â
âI see.â As he turned over and thumped his pillow, he said, âThank you. I feel comforted with the knowledge our people will not be alone and unguarded.â
âI will endeavor to keep them safe.â
âThanks, Jax.â
âIt was a pleasure talking to you, Judge.â
As Judge drifted into sleep, he murmured, âYou will make a good friend.â
Jax silently agreed he would.
Judge looked around and smiled when he saw the female standing by a gate. âGreetings, Star Daughter.â
âGreetings. Oh, you know who I am.â
âI do, and I know this is your home where you were raised.â
Peyton smiled. âYes, it was. I was loved here.â
âI can see that. It shines in every part of your construct.â
Peyton opened the gate and swept her hand out, âPlease enter and join me on the porch.â
Judge walked through the gate and up to the house. He waited until she had taken her seat before sitting on the rocking chair. âThis is peaceful.â
Peyton nodded in agreement. âI try to keep it that way. Itâs my escape place, somewhere I go to when things become overwhelming.â
âOnce I would have said it would be impossible to think of the Star Daughter needing a sanctuary. But recently I discovered all species can become overwhelmed and need somewhere to find their balance again.â
âYou have spoken to Jarrod, havenât you?â
Judge nodded. âI have done so. I always found him to be an extremely intelligent and complicated male with a sound sense of humor.â
Peyton looked over at him and said, âIt sounds as if you have met him before.â
âI did, several times in the past in very different situations. He and I were both different males then.â
âTime changes everything.â
Judge agreed, then said, âOr the emergence of an unusual Star Daughter does.â
âPerhaps.â
Judge smiled at her non-committal agreement. âWhy am I here again?â
âYou are well?â
âYes.â He flexed his arm and fingers. âYes, extremely well.â
âYou look healthier than you did last time you were here.
